Galco’s Parabellum 2.0 is the shoulder holster system for the 21st century gun carrier! Galco has a long and storied history with shoulder holster systems, ranging from the original Jackass rigs of 1970s Chicago, through the Miami Classic made famous by Don Johnson in the 1980s, and into the 2000s with the Vertical Holster System (VHS) so popular among Americas warfighters. Once again, Galco has modernized shoulder holster carry. Using hybrid construction that combines Kydex with top grain leather and Premium Center Cut Steerhide, along with a refined and updated harness, the Parabellum 2.0 is a giant leap forward in shoulder system design. Carrying both pistol and spare magazines in a horizontal orientation, the Parabellum 2.0s Kydex holster and mag carrier bodies allow very fast firearm drawing and reloading capabilities. Retention of the pistol is accomplished with reinforced retention strap swiftly released by the thumb to draw the pistol. The open-front magazine carriers use rubberized passive retention ramps for security and permit a very fast reload without any encumbering straps. The Parabellums holster and magazine carrier components are mated to Galcos newest wide comfort harness, which is a full 2.5 at the shoulder, maximizing wearer comfort. At the same time, concealability especially with an open jacket is enhanced with a recontouring of the harnesss strap shape. The new harness also features an improved, tool-free key-hole harness fastener system that replaces the earlier screw-and-post design that results in greater security, ease of assembly, and greatly reduced chance of fastener loss. Optional accessories and components may be purchased separately, including commonly-used items like tie-downs. The future of shoulder holster systems has arrived with Galcos Parabellum 2.0. I chose the Galco Parabellum over another contender in part based on the Galco reputation…design elements in common with their classic leather shoulder holster systems…available reviews…and the fact the Parabellum accommodates red dots while their leather systems do not.Since arriving a week or so ago I’ve been wearing the holster for much of each day mostly to figure out the best adjustments for me. Galco recommends several days of wear before setting the adjustments and they’re right. It takes some time making incremental adjustments and corrections. Once you get it right the system is comfortable for all-day wear and conceals very well even with open jackets…vests…even shirts. I haven’t found the need so far to purchase the separate belt retention straps. When adjusted high and tight – the way I like it – the fit is stable and the draw very effective. The only negative for me is the thumb release retention strap. While Galco’s instructions make it clear that it will take some stretching and flexing to loosen the strap to the point you’ll be able to snap it shut….even after a week of keeping the strap closed over my firearm (once I was able to do so) I still have to take the holster off to refasten after opening to draw. I still can’t get it reshaped while wearing. I also find the thumb release of the strap a little awkward….but perhaps that’s due to my surgically frozen joint at the base of the thumb making full extension and movement of the thumb compromised from normal.Overall I really like the holster.
