This sight helped tighten my shot group tremendously, you can't beat the simplicity and accuracy. Since it sits on the tang, you do have to mind where you place the thumb on your shooting hand. Colorado and some other states do not allow optics on muzzle loaders while hunting, but this sight is the next best thing to an optic. I would also recommend painting a high visibility dot on your front sight to make acquisition easier. Pros: Easy to mount and set upCons: Takes some getting used to

I personally would like Target Knobs for windage and elevation. Rifle stock Length of pull is a tad short, Lyman should manufacture a stock extension as an accessory. Remember to swab attachment screw holes with alcohol, wipe dry with cue-tips, and use a product like "Loc Tite" to secure screws.Pros: Well made.Cons: None.

This is what I needed to make my flintlock shoot-able again. At age 61, my eyes need a little help and the aperture sight makes it happen. I should have put one of these on years ago!

I just purchased my second Lyman 57GPR receiver sight and now have one of a .54 caliber GPR and one on a .50 caliber GPR. These sights move the distance at which I can accurately place a shot from 50 yards to 100+ yards. They are so easy to mount and adjust that I wouldn't consider any other sight for a GPR. It's even better than two of the other sights I've used and liked – the Thompson Center Tang Mouted Peep sight and the no longer available TC Vernier sight. Pros: This sight doubled the range at which I can confidently shoot.Cons: A bit bulky. But the great featues require a little bulk.

I had this sight back ordered for 2-3 years before it was available, so I was quite excited to finally have it arrive in the mail. To mount this sight the tang on the Lyman's Great Plains Rifle only one hole must be drilled and tapped first. But I ran into a problem that prevented the peep sight from being mounted. The peep sight and it's base/shim are flat, but the tang is curved. I had an experienced gunsmith mount the sight for me. He had to mill a flat section on the tang (and re-blue it) before he could drill and tap it. Once mounted, the sight was easy to adjust. I liked the quick detach feature, where the sight can be removed with the push of a button. This button can be locked in place with the tightening of a set screw. Overall I like the designed function and the adjustability of the sight. I could easily adjust the sight with an inexpensive ($4.00) set of "precision screwdrivers" available at all hardware stores. I have adjusted the peep sight to lined up with the existing barrel mounted front and back sights. And I am excited to head to the rifle range to fine tune the sight. The directions on its mounting and use are include and reasonably well written. While mounting the sight is a challenge for the average do-it-your-selfer, I give the use/function of the sight 5 out of 5 stars.
