The Zhukov-U Hand Guard shaves off 1.5″ from the original Zhukov AK Hand Guard to accommodate shorter barreled rifles and pistols, and keeps the front end of full length rifles a little more lively. The shorter version also allows us to accommodate the military issue cleaning rods, so you don’t have to give that up to get the benefits of the Zhukov anymore! The Zhukov-U shares the same type of sturdy aluminum chassis as the longer standard Zhukov for strength and heat mitigation sheathed in a comfortable, injection molded exterior for superior ergonomics. The Zhukov-U includes M-LOK slots for accessory attachment, and is fully compatible with the UltiMAK gas tube rail. Installation requires removing handguard retainer. FEATURES – 1.5″ shorter than standard Zhukov hand guard – Fits stamped and milled AK-47/AK-74 rifles with standard-length gas systems* – Optimized for short barrel rifles such as AK-102, AK-104, & AK-105 – Full-length aluminum chassis for strength and rigidity – Heat shield relieved to accept standard AK cleaning rod – Durable polymer outer Hand Guard – M-LOK slots for accessory attachment – Extended length for modern shooting techniques – Vented gas tube cover – UltiMAK compatible *NOTE: The Zhukov-U Hand Guard requires the permanent removal of the factory hand guard retaining cap and forward sling mount if so equipped. Please ensure your barrel diameter under the hand guard falls between 16.75-18.25 millimeters before cutting your retaining cap! Due to the wide range of tolerances of your typical AK, minor additional fitting may be required. Not compatible with Yugo pattern rifles or RPK style receivers. WARNING: Due to extended Hand Guard length, barrels less than 11.5″ long are not recommended. Go Zhukov! For any AK furniture, it's Zhukov for me. It allows a very forward and we'll distributed grip between your two hands for extra stabilizing. It's look great, and it wasn't very expensive. I don't plan on changing it out ever. It also is compatible with the ultimak, but the handguards, upper and lower, seriously mitigate the heat felt by your hands. Would highly recommend this to anyone.

I was hesitant going with the Zhukov-U because I learned it required removing the hand guard retainer clip. I hoped on YouTube and found AK enthusiast PPhenix PPhenix who talks you through the process of moding the Zhukov heat shield instead of cutting the retainer clip. I followed his guidance and couldn't be happier with the outcome. This hand guard seems to be well made and the heat shield really gives it a solid feel. I did have to cut off my front sling mount to allow it all to fit. Not a big deal for me, but if you don't want to do that, look at the MOE. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. It really is a game changer for this platform.

Got this for my Draco SBR to replace my Ultimak rail. This is much lighter and has less sharp edges, but with the m-lok it still has all the mounting options I need for the light and sling mount. Installation was pretty easy, even with the Ultimak railed gas tube, and it feels super solid. I think the most time consuming part was cutting off the old handguard retainer. This also comes right out to the base of the muzzle device on the Draco so it has a nice complete look to it too.

My AK-47 is a custom rifle made by Acu-Tec out of Denver. I wanted to upgrade the front hand guard because the original style was just too small for my liking. This Magpul is exactly what I was looking for! High quality material, perfect length right up to the front site post and very very solid once bolted on. The two barrel clamps secure this thing like it’s welded to the barrel. No more rickety feel that AK’s are known for, especially when combined with the barrel mods made by Acu-Tec. It did take some effort to install this, but nothing a mechanically inclined man can’t overcome. Just give yourself a few hours over a weekend to get it done right the first time. The quality and solid feel of this make it worth the effort.

I originally had the first version of the Zhukov. Didn't like that I couldn't put in the cleaning rod. Now, with the Zhukov U I can put on the cleaning rod! BUT, now there's no room for any m-lok accessories on the bottom rail. The cleaning rod gets in the way of the m-lok fasteners, which makes all the m-lok slots on the bottom pointless. If you do squish on an accessory, it has to be in the front 2 slots, but then the cleaning rod can't come out without removing that accessory.

Nothing really wrong with the hand guard, I only returned it because install was going to require me to cut off the hand guard mount. This would alter the rifle permanently. I didn’t realize it upon purchase.
