The supertac x is supposed to be 65 lumens brighter than the original supertac but they are both so bright its hard to tell. It really does shine 400 meters confirmed by a rangefinder out to 350 meters. The low setting is nice for up close work as the full power of the light will overwhelm you. My biggest concern with the light was not knowing exactly how the multi setting switch worked as there is no precise info on that anywhere on their site. With this switch you dont have to cycle through all settings to get to off. You lightly tap the switch to enter the mode you want then go straight to off from there. The regulated runtime is nice as the light will not shut off on you when the batteries get weak. The low setting has an 80 hour runtime. With the proper mount i mount this on my dpms ar15 under my magpul moe forend. It handles recoil well and shines right where my reticle is zeroed. For the price you WILL NOT find a light this powerful and light weight. The lifetime warranty is also a bonus. I own 2 and i will buy another as i phase out all the other junk lights around the house. Pros: low setting, 400 meter beam, weapon mountable, regulated run time, priceCons: NONE

I bought the Streamlight Supertac XL to use both as a hand-held and as a weapon-mounted light. It works great, and is the best light of its type on the market, for the money, bar none!!Pros: Bright; great strobe; long battery life

This is a great flashlight … except for the tail switch. Changing from different modes – high, economy and strobe – requires that you quickly press the tail switch. But if you press to hard, you'll lock into a mode you don't want, and you'll have to try again. Adding a simple 3-way switch would make it easier to use.Pros: Bright, focused beam; lightweightCons: Tail switch is touchy

it is actually the super tac x, streamlight does not make a super tac xl, you can verify this by going to the streamlight website, and when you recieve this light it is the streamlight super tac x.Pros: super bright, shines very far, brightest handheldCons: none

I bought this light to use on my AR-15. The light I previously had was an Surefire G2. While I liked the light for building searches it lacked in long range output. The Streamlight Super Tac fits the bill perfectly. I can adjust the intensity based on my particular needs and the light is not too bulky. The cost is also right on. While researching lights someone suggested a Surefire that cost $300. While price wasn't an issue considering what I was using it for, why spend the extra money if you don't need to. I have used Streamlights for years without an issue and I am very hard on equipment.I would definetly recommend this light to anyone wanting a high quality weapons light at a reasonable cost. Pros: extremely bright, low costCons: None

Have gone thru several of the 1st edition Super Tac's for general use of any flashlight plus hunting at night. Thought I would try the newer XL edition. So far totally satisfied. For a hand held flashlight it is almost indestructible. Light projection is easily several hundred yards. I find no problem moving thru the different change modes and have my set for constant. In hunting situations most of my weapon platforms (bolt or AR types) all have picatinny rails on the handguards or on the scope itself. I use the Streamlight picatinny attachment made for this flashlight. It attaches easily onto the weapon and the XL into it. Now my weapon then has huge potential for several hundred yard shots at night. One must take off the little clip off side of flashlight to use in a picatinny system. The only thing that will eventually wear out is the rubber tail switch but that is after year and years of use. Buy one and Light up the night.
