Was skeptical about a light with an optic, but this light blew my expectations away. Everything I wanted out of a light, momentary on or fully on with no noise switching between settings to remain tactical. Always goes to high setting first. Programable. And of course a high lumen light with decent throw that's rechargeable. Optic does give it more of spot then flood but still does the job. Easily lights up a whole car or room or back yard when scanning for easy acquisition.

This flashlight is a little pricey but well worth every penny!!!!! We live in the county and have 4 acre yard! When the dogs bark I can shine this light and see every fencerow surrounding our property and pass. Many nights I have seen the eyes of a coyote on the outside of our fence thanks to these wonderful flashlights. Have 2 and love them.

Compared to the Stinger DS HPL, the UltraStinger is a little brighter and throws a little further. And since they are about the same price depending on where you buy, the UltraStinger is a little more bang for the buck. But the trade-off is length and especially weight. But after you get used to that, there is a big difference in the switch. The UltraStinger switch is difficult to locate and engage due to a lack of recess around the switch as compared to the HPL. It's not the button size that makes it difficult…it's the fact that you have to press down inside a small cut-out to turn it on. The recess around the HPL is much simpler to engage and locate. If the UltraStinger were a DS model, it would be a much better flashlight than it is without a tailswitch. I recommend the UltraStinger second to the DS HPL Stinger.

Overall an awesome light. Very solid. Definitely a distance champ. I'm a big fan of Streamlight and own 7 of them. This light throws a fairly tight, solid beam a long way. At about 20', the beam is about 1-2' in diameter, very intense, with more spillover than my HP LED. The beam is excellent at a distance. For LEOs, keep in mind this light is long, so no endcap switch. The standard Streamlight side-mount switch on the side isn't for everyone, as it tends to be a little bit small, IMO. When I unholster the light with one hand, I often have to jostle it in order to get the switch in the right position. Streamlight has better tactical choices. But the switch is programmable with the power-saving dimmer, which is very useful. The length and weight of this light can certainly be your friend should the need for an improvised impact tool arise. This light apparently isn't designed to focus, but unscrewing the lighthead makes the beam wider if you really need it. However, the head loosens substantially if you do this. Bottom line: Awesome handheld flashlight for distance use, definitely the brightest I've ever had. May not be as practical as the Stinger DS HL LED if you need something for regular, nightly duty use.

The light is awesome.Top tier quality form a top tier brand. The brightness, the throw, the pre-focused beam, the decent battery life. When you need a light stick to burn through the night, the Ultra Stinger is like a hot knife through butter. Being a full size light I could see one complaint is the length and I am aware there are other more expensive models/brands with a more compact design but you will be paying top price for it and the Ultra is nice balance between performance and price. Streamlight has come a long way over the years being a solid go to for quality lights. Nowadays Streamlight has definitely stepped up to stay competitive as ever, now that LED technology has made leaps and bounds, as when years ago Streamlight was once one of only a few of solid brands you could trust unconditionally. Again the way technology goes there is so many no name brands out there with low price and mediocre quality you see specs, think you have a decent product and after a handful of months some kind of issue comes up.. Whether the brand you settled for has the same lifetime warranty of Streamlight is a coin toss but I'd be inclined to say no. So over the course of a however many years your Streamlight will keep going strong even if you have to replace a new battery cell since they arent made to last forever but comparing to the various budget lights of similar rated quality and performance, after the budget light fails and cant be warrantied and you have to buy a new one however often you will most likely spend enough money over the time to just picked up the Streamlight in the first place. In short, the light is decently priced, wickedly bright, practically build bulletproof, and worth every penny that will last as long as any expectation you want to have with it. Even if you somehow manage to blow it up or something outrageous happens for the light to fail, again thats what the warranty is for and having dealt with Streamlight before in the past with warrantying a light, the only thing frustrating is having to wait for return shipping.

Flashlight is well made and bright as daylight. The handle is a small diameter and easy to hold. The variable power makes it more reliable because of battery life.Only criticism is I wish you did not have to cycle through the power ranges to get the brightness you want.Would be much easier if a switch was available.Over all I would recommend the light.
