While nearly twice the price of the 85MM Diamondback version, there is a noticeable improvement in clarity at higher magnifications. It's not a night and day difference, but definitely better and more significantly, the chromatic aberration at 60X is almost non-existent in comparison.That may not be worth the much higher cost to some people, but when you're glassing past 500 yards or looking at astronomical objects, better glass, is well, better. I did not see nearly as much difference comparing this to the razor so this scope fits the bill.

Terrific scope: bright, clear, very well made.The built-in retractable sun shade was a nice surprise.I’m using it for 1,000 yard rifle shooting, the .30 cal holes are easily seen.Would be interested in hearing what hard-sided cases people are using to transport theirs.

This vortex viper HD is what I needed for my long distance shooting!!! The clarity is awesome, I'm able to see impacts on every long distance range I shoot in Georgia/ Alabama. I purchased this scope for use on a private rifle range @ 100 yds. Used in concert with the vortex tripod, mountain, I can leave this fixed on target and observe as if I was only a few ft away. I have fit the foam packing material this scope arrived in, into an Apache hard case # 4800 from Harbor Freight. It fits perfectly from side to side leaving room in front for a range finder and a lens cleaning kit. On a clear night I was able to observe the craters on the moon. That’s a lot of bang for the buck!
