I bought the handguard from optics and like a dummy i didn't realize it didn't come with the special nut. So I forgot to buy this. Opticsplanet was the only place that had it in stock and cheaper, i wish it had come with it but oh well

Needed a new BAR barrel nut for an Aero Precision Quantum handguard install. Optics Planet had it in stock and was not overpriced like some competitors and shipping was free. Easy to install. A standard armorers wrench is required along with a torque wrench. Aero Precision recommends torque 30 to 45 ft lbs.
Mel –
Needs more shims in set. I torqued the nut the recommended 3 times. Untorqued and reinstalled. installed shims one at a time up to 8 (.001 thk ea) then torqued to 45 ft lbs. Alignment hole for gas tube ended up about 15deg clockwise past gas tube hole in nut. ran out of shims. Suggest either add addition new 4 hole pattern at 45deg or double shims.

It’s the right barrel nut for some aero precision handguards. Comes with 8 screws that screw the handguards into the nut. Not much more to say about it. But I definitely recommend it if you’re in need of it.

I have built multiple AR’s and typically love AP but this thing is the most poorly designed product I have ever seen. There is no flat surface with which to use a crows foot wrench and nut uses the highly undesirable “four hole” configuration that makes wrench selection difficult. I can’t be more disappointed in aero. Don’t buy this
