I've been looking for a thermal which can be mounted on the helmet and paid my attention to this one. Firstly I wanted to buy the cheapest version with the 320×240 resolution. But I finally bought this one and have no regrets yet. The quality of the thermal picture is amazing. It's lightweight and very durable. I'm really impressed.

Hard to say how good it is, as I received a defective unit. First time I turened it on, I got a blank screen. The second time I got diagonal lines. The third time I got an image…that was worse than any of my 320/384 resolution units, about on par with my 160 resolution unit. But, it would only detect out about 50 yards. Then I noticed something rattling around in inside. Sent it back, waiting on my replacement.

The first unit I received was defective. It had a part rattling around inside and would only power up properly 1 in 3 tries. The replacement unit appears to operate properly, however the image equality is poor. While you can see the higer resoultion of the sensor in the greater detail of objects in the center of your field of view, the sensor sensitivity appears to fade as it gets near the edge of the screen. I have tried every combination of Contrast, Sensitivity, and Brightness settings and the problem persisits. You have a high-contrast oval in the center of the image and it fades to a dull low-contrast image at the edges. This adds to the tunnel vision that you get from the already narrow field of view. When using the Auto NUC function on either of the increased levels of magnification, it NUCs about every 3 seconds, very annoying.Battery life when using brand-new name-brand (Surfire) rechargeable lithium batteries in cold temps (you know, the temps in which I hunt) was less than 1 hour. That's half of what they say you should get with the single battery option. So my choice is spend the the extra $90 for the rechargeable double battery pack and hope it more than doubles the battery life, or feed this thing $20 of batterys every night that I hunt.I am returning this and will contintue to hunt with my 320 resolution ATN OTS LT, which costs half as much and works as advertised.

This is not my first ATN unit but the way that ATN was able to compact thermal into this pocket-sized monocular is truly incredible.

  5. James

After looking at a few thermal monoculars, I decided on the ATN odin and I could not be happier with my new spotter. I am able to easily scan a field in seconds and see anything for hundreds of yards, highly recommend! I also recommend picking up the external battery pack, over doubled my battery life
