Higher price compared to many hard cases out there, but price is equivalent to durability, quality, and ease of use. Very useful when transporting weapons on commercial airlines. I bought this particular gun case to transport a Ruger 10/22. The dimensions are perfect for short barreled rifles, including ARs. I wasn't thrilled about cutting my own foam to fit one particular rifle, but it was actually quite easy following Pelican's instructions.Three areas of concern. Nothing major but needs to be considered.1. Weight. This thing is heavier than my 10/22. 2. Replacement foam is pricey! Count on $30 just for a new middle pad for customizing the fit to another rifle.3. Water tight? I didn't have the guts to throw a brand new gun case in a lake with a customized 10/22 to watch it sink. It should be boyant, but I can't say for sure. I do know that cleaning the outside of the case with mild soap and water leaves the inside pefectly dry.

Purchased the Pelican 1720 with foam in black. Removed the foam and added a SERT soft case that fits perfectly in the 1720. This makes for a perfect combination for holding my FNH SCAR 17S. Usually guns are stored in my safe but have wanted hard cases for traveling to range. This hard case works perfectly for that – a bit heavy but not unreasonable. I have a similar set up (Pelican 1700 and SERT case) for my FNH SCAR 16S. Couldn't be happier with both!

Well i got this in the OD green and love the color. I haven't tested the waterproof claim yet. I can fit one rifle with a scope in this case and still have room for mags and a hand gun or two. I could also fit my Tikka T3X TAC A1 with 24" barrel AND SCAR 17S in this case but they can't have optics on them if i do that. *Both have folding stocks that make this possible*. I have an 18" AR10 that fits nicely even with the stock extended one space and it has a very long brake on it. I would think a 20" AR10 would also fit without a problem. As for bolt guns with longer fixed stocks i do not know. I highly recommend buying extra foam for whatever load out you need to transport at the time. If this doesn't sound big enough i'd recommend you look into something else. If i had to do it again, i'd probably buy something bigger, rather than two different hard cases. That being said, i can always bring my scopes in my suitcase if i put them in padded boxes and even if you did leave it on the rifle you should always RE-Zero when you get to wherever you're going. I have yet to fly with it but i will be flying in Sept with it and that will be the first time i'm ever transporting a firearm. Honestly, it's a little nerve racking. Personally, i wish Pelican and Optics planet offered this with locks for extra. I'm not sure how hard it will be to find locks that are the ideal size for this case. Also, there are four holes for padlocks but only the two on the outside have metal protecting the polymer.

So I broke down and spent the money for suposedly the best rifle case on the market. When the case arrived I inspected it and noticed that the case seemed to seal tightly in some areas and not in others. I inspected the oring and it apeared to be fine. I initially chalked this up to manufacturing inconsistencies and let it slide. After talking to a coworker about the case he sugested that I perform a water tight test by submerging the case in the bathtub. I filled the tub and submerged the case for approximately two minutes. I then removed the case and dried the outside with a towel. Upon opening the case I discovered that the case had water inside. It was not alot but for it to have any after two minutes is unacceptable in my opinion. I thought that these cases were water tight. I hope that I just got a bad one that slipped through QC and that pelican will take care of me. I'll have to wait and see.Pros: sturdy, nice lookingCons: Expensive, not water tight like listed
