This muzzle break is great all around. It looks mean, it’s not bulky, and it noticeably decreases recoil while shooting .223 out of an AR-15. For what it is, I think it’s well worth the $40. Looks awesome, feels awesome, shoots awesome.

The Checkmate Comp is another sleek yet aggressive addition to the Strike Industries muzzle lineup. Noticeable muzzle control improvement vs an A2 or other open ended devices. End can be used to break glass or inflict damage on a softer medium if necessary. Looks are aligned with SI's chess piece designed for their comps and is compatible with the SI Oppressor that helps push gas forward for those range days. Great product for less than half the cost of other similar compensators.

I put this on a quality build and after 500 rounds I noticed sharp edge and bulging on front portion. It is blown back into the break port area. I contacted Strike Industries to seek their opinion of what was going on and if it was safe. They went into defense and stated it was carbon build up and i could go pound sand. Completely unhelpful, overly defensive and in my opinion not worth it…I will move on.
