I was amazed with this optic and can see why many LEOs and Military around the world trust this. It is very rugged and I chose the 518 since it is the 512, but utilizes EOTech's QD mounting system. It was really easy to sight in and the 2 dot system helps with aiming transitions from 50 to 100 yards. I noticed the electronics gotten better and has improved. We all know about EOTech's recent PR nightmare with the US Government, but L3 had overhauled the EOTech line and has changed greatly in quality. The Thermal shift problems have been rectified from what I am currently seeing. It keeps zero very well and the AA batteries is very useful. I highly recommend Lithium batteries and send in that mail-in rebate which makes it a literal steal, imo.

So pleased with the quality of the glass; no aberrations or distortions around the perimeter of the window, no reflections, no odd greenish hue like some of the competitors in the holographic sight space.

I have tried ever single quality red dot…I always end up going back to EOtech. They control parallax the best, they have decent battery life now as well…2500hrs with lithium on AA model EOtechs…Vortex UH1 is 1500 at best.EOtech also improved their warranty now to 10 years…which is awesome.

The title says it all. We all know what to expect from Eotech by now. The build quality is top notch, really enjoy the 20 different illumination options. There doesn't seem to be the option to leave the sight on permanently (it times out at either 4 or 8 hours), but to me it doesn't seem like a big deal, even in an emergency situation, to simply turn the sight on. Supplied in a durable storage case and even comes with batteries.

Fantastic glass quality; no odd green hue like some of the competitors, no distortion or aberrations around the window perimeter, no reflections or visible emission of light (from the front). Crisp reticle, rock solid QD attachment, and super thick shroud protecting the glass itself. Uses AA batteries so you’ll never be without power.

Think opticsplanet may be the only place that guarantees that the eotech being sold is the post 2018 revision with the upgraded battery life. 2,500hrs with the lithium AA effectively guarantees that you can change the battery once a year, even if you hit the range multiple times a week. With an 8 hour auto shutoff, you could turn it on every day for 8 hours, and it'd last ~300 days. Again, if you don't need the always on capability, this is pretty good for peace of mind. I do wish Eotech could create a shake-wake function though – that'd effectively make it an always on optic given the upgraded battery life
